Prayer by John Bunyan

Prayer

by John Bunyan

This Puritan Paperback gathers two of John Bunyan's works on prayer, written from Bedford jail after he refused to conform to set liturgical forms. Bunyan defines what real prayer is, insists it must rise from the heart in the strength of the Spirit rather than from rehearsed words, and shows how believers may draw near to God through the ministry of Christ.

In John Bunyan's own words

Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the heart or soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God hath promised.
Prayer (I Will Pray with the Spirit)
There is in prayer an unbosoming of a man's self, an opening of the heart to God, an affectionate pouring out of the soul in requests, sighs, and groans.
Prayer (I Will Pray with the Spirit)
