The Fear of God
by John Bunyan
Written in 1679, the year after Pilgrim's Progress appeared, Bunyan takes up a theme most believers misunderstand and shows that true fear of God is not cringing dread but reverent, worshipful awe rooted in grace. He traces where this fear comes from, who possesses it, and the privileges it brings, distinguishing godly fear from the false fears that counterfeit it.
From the book
In John Bunyan's own words
“Rightly to fear the Lord is a sign of a gracious heart.”
“The whole of our service to God, and every part thereof, ought to be done by us with reverence and godly fear.”
