The Best Books on Covenant Theology

Covenant theology is the confessional Reformed framework that reads the whole Bible through the covenants God makes with humanity, chiefly the covenant of works with Adam and the covenant of grace fulfilled in Christ. It treats Scripture as one unfolding story of redemption administered through successive covenants that reach their climax in the new covenant. Many Reformed writers also confess an eternal covenant of redemption among the persons of the Trinity as its foundation.

Covenant theology is the backbone of the confessional Reformed reading of Scripture, tying Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, and Christ into one story of grace. The books below are organized into three tiers so you can start where you are and grow from there. Every title is currently in print and stands within the confessional Reformed tradition. Begin with a plain-language introduction, then work toward the Puritan and scholarly classics.
